welcome to electronicsmb.com website!

This website is a product of many National Boy Scout Jamboree Merit Badge Midway experiences. We taught the Elecricity Merit Badge at the 1997 Jamboree and subsequently taught the Electronics Merit Badge in 2001, 2005, 2010 and 2013. The kit offered on this website was originally developed for the 2001 jamboree, and was redesigned in 2005 and again in 2010. I estimate over 3000 kits (from 2001 to present) have been used in the pursuit of the electronics merit badge.

In addition to the merit badge kit, I developed a hands-on, binary, decimal and hexadecimal teaching aid (bin_hex board). Variants of this teaching aid have been used since 2001. I redesigned this for the 2010 jamboree, using more currently available components, and again in 2015 to reduce cost, and am offering it for purchase in kit form. When I teach this merit badge, I hand one of these bin_hex boards to each scout for them to use while talking about the binary, decimal and hexadecimal number systems (class 3 in the material provided on this website). This board can easily be shared between scouts as well.

The class material presented at the jamboree for both the Electronics and Electricity merit badges is available on this website. These two merit badge classes have been funded at the Jamboree by the IEEE since 2001, and this material is also available at their website. I continue to teach the merit badge from this material, but have modified some of the slides to facilitate a less expensive approach when teaching Ohms Law.
